NIBR Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowships

Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research has a variety of postdoctoral positions in biology, chemistry, and computational sciences that provide excellent training in research and exposure to science in a pharmaceutical setting.

The NIBR Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowships provide scientists with a unique opportunity to conduct innovative basic research in an industry setting. Presidential Fellows have a NIBR mentor and an academic mentor, develop their projects in consultation with both mentors, and are expected to publish their results.

PhD students in the last year of their doctoral research, as well as postdoctoral fellows with fewer than two years of research experience past their PhD, are eligible to apply. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Fellowships are for a four-year term.

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Oncology, Emeryville, USA

We are seeking candidates for three positions. Candidates must have demonstrated scientific creativity, be able to work independently, and participate effectively in team efforts. Excellentverbalandwrittencommunicationskillsareessential;abackground in oncology is preferred but not required.

RAF Kinase Enzymology: This project involves the enzymology of RAF kinases, mechanism(s) of regulation of their activity, and mechanism of activation by RAF inhibitors. The project will provide an opportunity to apply techniques from multiple disciplines, including enzymology, biochemistry, biophysics, and molecular cell biology.

Qualifications: PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics or other related fields with experience/strong interest in enzymology, physical biochemistry, protein biochemistry and/or macromolecular interactions. Background in cell signaling mechanisms and/or kinase enzymology is desirable.

Resistance to MAPK pathway inhibitors: The approach for this project is highly translational, bridging in vitro to in vivo systems using clinically-derived cancer models to understand how RAS/RAF mutant tumors overcome inhibition by targeted therapies, and to identify strategies to prevent the evolution of resistance.

Qualifications: PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology or related field. Experience in mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA/protein manipulation, genetic data analysis, and mouse models is desired.

Signaling by ERK1/2 in cancer: This project involves the biology, sub-cellular localization and signaling of extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases (ERK 1/2) in cancer, and their specific roles in cancer cell survival and maintenance of oncogenesis.

Qualifications: PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related field. Strong experience in mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA manipulation, and protein analysis as well as cellular immunofluorescence techniques and utilization of viral vectors are desirable.
